Bird mode comes to the Z6III, along with Auto Capture, the Nikon Authenticity Service and more

In its first major firmware update, bird mode has been added to subject detection in the Nikon Z6III. First introduced in the flagship Nikon Z9, bird mode makes tracking birds in flight a breeze, and the subject remains sharp even when taking images against difficult, high-contrast backgrounds, such as mountains and forests.

Auto Capture also comes to the Nikon Z6III for the first time. This enables you to set up your camera and leave it in place with instructions to take pictures when certain conditions are met, such as an animal or person passing. It’s a fantastic feature for wildlife and sports photographers and lets you capture moments even when you can’t be there.

A third major feature of the firmware update is the inclusion of Nikon Authenticity Service within a Nikon camera for the first time. In an age of increasing use of AI and image manipulation, the Nikon Authenticity Service records clear provenance information of stills and video, from taking pictures through to editing, providing increased transparency and trust in images. It’s fully compatible with the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) standard, which is used around the world by media organisations and content creators to prove the veracity of their work.

A full list of all the additions and improvements in v.2.00 for the Z6III can be found here. You can download the new firmware via the download centre or wirelessly direct to your camera using Nikon Imaging Cloud.
